Diptyque
The story began in 1961 when three friends — Desmond Knox-Leet, Christiane Gautrot and Yves Coueslant — opened a boutique on the Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. Originally, they sold textiles, beautiful objects and souvenirs from exotic locations, Two years later they presented their first hawthorn-scented candle and in 1968, their first eau de toilette — L’Eau.
Diptyque has masterfully kept pace with the changing trends in scents while at the same time maintaining its DNA. Olivier Pescheux, one of the most famous “noses” of today, emphasises their most characteristic feature to be their unconventional combinations of aromas. One element is always added to their compositions that seemingly clashes with the rest but in reality only heightens the experience. In L’Eau, which was inspired by 16th century combinations of pot-pourri, was ginger. Additionally, in their bestselling Do Son scent there was the hypnotic floral note of tuberose and jasmine mixed with the resonant scent of the sea.
But Diptyque is not just about perfumes and eau de toillette. It is also a globally-known producer of candles, scented care products, indoor accessories and trinkets that bring great joy. These are the limited collections and editions for which we have been waiting all year.
