The Art of Evolution: How Hala Koszyki Is Redefining the Standards of Urban Lifestyle After a Decade

The tenth anniversary of Hala Koszyki’s presence on Warsaw’s map marks a moment to showcase the maturity of the concept. Poland’s first food hall, which transformed the country’s culinary landscape a decade ago, is now undergoing a metamorphosis of its own. By combining respect for its historic heritage with new zones and the continued development of its culinary offering, Koszyki demonstrates that being a leader requires constant evolution, openness to change and the courage to set new trends.

Since reopening in 2016 following an extensive and meticulous revitalisation, and introducing the then-new food hall format to the Polish market, Hala Koszyki has evolved in parallel with Warsaw’s increasingly sophisticated culinary, cultural and entertainment scene. Its iconic dining destinations are complemented by cultural programmes, music events and, most recently, Arcade Bee, a professional entertainment platform. Through this evolution, Koszyki has become an urban hub for connections and experiences – one of the places setting the rhythm of life in the capital.

The latest changes focus on guest comfort and making optimal use of the building’s unique architecture. Following the restoration of its historic entrance gates, the next stage of the modernisation involved extending the mezzanine, adding an additional 95 sq m of guest space. A new staircase has also significantly improved circulation while creating new opportunities for cultural and business events in the very heart of the Hall. The new chillout and dining zones have been furnished with bespoke pieces designed and manufactured by renowned Polish company BALMA. Neutral colours inspired by Koszyki’s distinctive architecture and the furniture’s flowing lines emphasise the timeless character of the space, creating an ideal setting for relaxation, private and business meetings, and enjoying meals from Koszyki’s culinary offering.

A symbol of the anniversary transformation is a new art installation: Syrenka by Maurycy Gomulicki. The work is now on display at Hala Koszyki thanks to close cooperation with office tenant ENERIS, owner of the dela.art collection. Bringing the neon artwork into the food hall is a manifestation of the venue’s strategy: making art widely accessible directly within the urban environment. At the same time, the piece creates an artistic dialogue with Koszyki’s historical legacy, as the mermaid motif can also be found in early 20th-century bas-reliefs decorating the entrance buildings.

“Implementing changes in a venue as vibrant as Hala Koszyki requires tremendous precision and flexibility. Over the past year, we have focused not only on complex structural works, such as rebuilding the mezzanine and adding a new staircase, but also on the dynamic transformation of individual units, including tenant relocations (Atom, The Fry) and changes of use from retail to food and beverage (BRUT) and entertainment (Arcade Bee). What we have achieved so far is an ideal balance between rigorous technical standards and business optimisation for Koszyki’s tenants,”
explains Edyta Regulska, Eng., Project Manager at Globalworth Poland.

The evolution of the space is accompanied by further culinary debuts, bringing the energy of new international cuisines to Hala Koszyki. At the beginning of May, Omonia joined the restaurant line-up – a concept that transports guests to sunny Greece. The venue combines an atmospheric interior with authentic cuisine based on traditional recipes and top-quality ingredients. Its menu is led by classic souvlaki, aromatic mezze and fresh salads with feta cheese.

BibimBar, the second May opening, brings an Asian flavour to the mix. This contemporary street-food concept captures the pulse of Seoul’s bustling streets. The restaurant specialises in bold Korean flavours, serving aromatic bibimbap, crispy chicken and spicy tteokbokki. Both concepts share a focus on authenticity and the celebration of eating together.

The anniversary year is also an opportunity to refresh concepts that have been part of Koszyki for a decade. The iconic Kago Sushi has extended its lease and undertaken a comprehensive refurbishment of its premises to align even more closely with the venue’s refreshed standards and the culinary trends valued by its guests.

“Selecting brands for Koszyki is much like curating an art gallery, where every detail matters and all the elements need to work together. We are delighted by the trust of partners such as Kago Sushi, who have chosen to reinvest here – proof of the strength and longevity of our business relationships. The new openings, Omonia and BibimBar, demonstrate that Koszyki remains one of the capital’s most sought-after culinary destinations,”
concludes Weronika Maria Kuna, MRICS, Asset Management & Leasing Manager at Globalworth Poland.

Built between 1906 and 1908, Hala Koszyki became one of Poland’s flagship mixed-use projects following its revitalisation. Combining dining, retail and office functions, the Globalworth-managed property has been setting the standard for modern urban spaces for a decade.
