Hala Koszyki's 7th Birthday: Remembering the Wild 90s!

On October 20-21, the most popular food hall in Warsaw, Hala Koszyki, will be celebrating its 7th Birthday. The owner and manager of Hala Koszyki, Globalworth, will transport guests back to the wild 90s. On Friday, October 20, the evening will be graced by the performance of the Polish band Varius Manx, known for hits like ‘Ten sen’ and ‘Orła cień.’ DJ Tonka, a global legend of House music, will also perform.

Hala Koszyki, along with its guests, will celebrate its 7th Birthday on October 20-21. This year, visitors will travel back to a time when you could watch TV series like ‘Beverly Hills 90210,’ ‘Friends,’ or ‘MacGyver,’ and see ‘Jurassic Park’ in theaters. Most people spent their leisure time at the first ‘McDonald’s’ restaurants in Poland. This decade was shaped by the trends set by musical and television idols.

The fashion of the 90s had its own rules. Outfits teetered on the edge of kitsch, often crossing that line. The streets were ruled by platform shoes, bandanas, clogs, crop tops, plaid skirts, loose sweatshirts, and overalls. The 90s are a true goldmine of ideas. We must also remember the music icons that contributed to the mainstream trends of that time. In the case of grunge, especially popular in the United States, these included Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The 90s were also the era of girls and boys bands, such as the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Atomic Kitten, and N Sync. Denim, suede, and sportswear in quite unusual combinations were dominant.

Hala Koszyki’s birthday is a unique opportunity to take a sentimental journey and relive the atmosphere of those years. The highlight of this year’s celebration will be the Friday concert by Varius Manx.

There will be no shortage of musical attractions. DJ Tonka, a house music icon and a legend of the club scene since the 90s, will also appear on Koszyki’s stage on saturday 21st of October. He is the author of both more underground productions within the realm of house music (including Latino, disco, and hip-house) and popular, continuously refreshed classics like ‘She Knows You’ and ‘Don’t Be Afraid to Let Yourself Go.’ Additionally, artists like B’Fairy, Maria Bros, and Rita will complement this mixtape with 90s sounds. They are well-known artists and promoters of the Warsaw and Tricity audience.

Seven years ago, the moment that not only Warsaw residents but also those from nearby areas had been eagerly waiting for arrived - the first Warsaw food hall was opened. On the occasion of Koszyki's 7th Birthday, we have prepared a multitude of attractions for our guests. Already this coming Friday, October 20th, there will be a grand, joint celebration. You are warmly invited, and dressing inspired by the fashion of those years is more than welcome.
- Kamila Winiarska, Event Manager of Hala Koszyki, encourages you to join in the celebration.

More detailed information about the event can be found on Hala Koszyki’s Facebook and Instagram profiles.

Hala Koszyki was constructed over 100 years ago on Koszykowa Street in Warsaw, on the site of the former Koszyki estate. Designed in the Art Nouveau style by architect Juliusz Dzierżanowski, it only returned to the city’s map as a unique social and culinary hub in the autumn of 2016, offering dining options in several restaurants and bars, as well as a variety of food products for home. The complex comprises 16,000 square meters of office space and 6,500 square meters of retail space. Globalworth is the owner and manager of Hala Koszyki. www.koszyki.com
